About Me

My artwork consists of pencil drawings, pastel landscapes and other works on paper.

My pencil technique started in my first college art class. When given the assignment of studying and experimenting with the style of a favorite master, I chose the pencil and charcoal/chalk drawings of Michelangelo.

I strive for simplicity in both my pencil drawings and my pastel landscapes, which are influenced by American tonalist, George Inness and other masters of atmospheric light.

In June of 2020 I began painting again (after 40 years of drawing). Being limited to the COVID outbreak, I choose flowers and plants that I saw on walks and bike rides around Portland. A few of my favorite water-colored botanical cards can be seen in "My Work".

Be well.
